Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: [ARC2-SDICC] Viasat Terminal

At the Austin HOT, we simply used the MITe app to obtain the azimuth and elevation.   But it has other functions that require a WiFi connections, which we did not cover in class.

I thought of this after I left the RC on Saturday.  Next month, we should connect a WiFi access point and explore.  I found the attached documentation for MITe on the Internet.

We did not. Our objective was to simply set up the dish and update software as needed.

Did you have a router to connect to a wifi connected to the modem?

Yes— the MITe iPhone app by ViaSat was what they recommended at the Austin HOT.

Fredric had it installed on his phone already.

I used SatFinder. Frederic used the app provided by the Red Cross. They both seemed to work fine.  Biggest problem is getting the tripod level.
Adjusting the legs is quite clunky.

Gary, Mike et. al.

Did you use the MITE3  app? If so, any comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

Additional info....

We were able to achieve a satellite signal ratio of ~ 8.06  which allowed a 25.9 MB Download speed and Upload of 4.19 MB (fairly respectable rate).

The software version on the satellite is UT_3.7.3.10.9.  The DOCC indicated it was the most recent version.

Mike Corum, Fredric Raab, Dan Musick and I setup the Viasat terminal successfully this morning.   We contacted the DST@DOCC and found that the terminal had up to date software.  It took roughly an hour to get it setup, and another 20 to 30 minutes to call the DOCC to check the software.
