Jim -
RE: Boot Camp. Enjoyed it myself. OC ARC's CDOC is
to die for! Like our Radio Room better, though...
RE: NCS/North Check Ins... thanks - we'll roll you
in somewhere.
RE: Winlinke Net. Been thinking about this. If you
are going to check in on a regular basis, can you keep our group up to date on
what's going on? I'm a member of the Winlink group, too, but between RACES, OC
ARC and some problems I'm having getting an acceptable UHF signal out from my
QTH I probably won't be a regular check in.
RE: Vista Winlink - want to play, but don't know if
I can at this time. Will let you know.

Re: [ARC2_SDICC] June 2008 - Net & Liaison Assignments
"Jim Egerton" <jegerton@...>
Hi Jerry, What fun yesterday. Bob had a great idea to have on of these boot camps here in SD county. Big challenge but would be worth while. Now I cannot do the OC arc report because it conflicts with a winlink/rms net on Mondays. I need to do this to keep abreast of the training and technology so I can be prepared. Once a month there is a county wide CERT net on Tuesday evenings at 1900 hours so I will plan for that and work around the schedule to not book SDARC net when that occurs on the RACES vhf repeater. Complicated life! So you can put me down for net control or north check in for June 17 or 24th, if you don’t get any newbes or is still blank. Thanks Jerry for your help on the winlink/rms stuff. Working with it yesterday solidified my understanding of it. I bought another KPC3plus and plan to leave the rms station at home and test various likely shelter locations in Vista and see what the coverage is by taking my other tnc/radio/laptop mobile Fun Fun . Let me know if you want to play. Jim

Hi, All!
It's that time again! Looking for volunteer Net Controls, folks to check in the districts, and people to monitor and check in to the OC ARC net.
Since the OC ARC Boot Camp is replacing our regular monthly meeting, we'll have to make the June/early July assignments via the "magic" of email.
Attached is the latest roster and a tentative assignment list for June. Let me know which date(s) you want. We'll work out any conflicts on a case-by-case basis.
----- SPECIAL INVITATION
For you new or regular net members who haven't (as yet) tried Net Control, District Check In, or OC ARC liaison...(and you know who you are...)
IT'S EASY, FUN, AND GOOD PRACTICE!
Someday the waste products will hit the rotating airfoil and you just might want to start and/or help run a net until the cavalry arrives...
Learning how to do it is easy. We supply the time slot, participants, and script - you supply the voice. Nothing simpler.. ----
<<>>
Anyway, I tried.

Hi everyone, Grady and I have decided to go up on Friday, stay overnight and then attend Bootcamp. Therefore, we won't be carpooling with anyone else (unless they want to go to Disneyland too! ;) ) Delora

If you would like to come don't think it would be a problem. They are inviting members from all emergency groups in Orange County so I would say come on along.

Bob,
Is this event only for card-carring ARC members? We did not get that from the meeting last month. We (June and I) were thinking of going, but if is a limited gathering, I guess that won't work. Awaiting your details.

Re: [ARC2_SDICC] Does CA's new cell phone law apply to mobile Amateur radios?
"Jerry Kostro" <ak6qj-radioguy@...>
Hi, Jack!
From the ARRL Letter, March 16th, 2008...
"Amateur Radio Exempt from California's New "Hands Free"
Law: On July 1, the State of California will have new laws on the books to deal
with the use of wireless telephones while driving. There has been some confusion
as to whether California amateurs who operate in their car will be affected by
the new law. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicle's Web site
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/cellularphonelaws/dl208_03cell_phone.pdf,
"the use of dedicated two-way radios such as walkie-talkies or Citizen Band (CB)
radios is not affected by the new law" for drivers 18 or older. "
FWIW this means that the law does not cover
amateur radio operators, or ARRL will pay all our tickets. Just
tell the nice CHiPs officer that you are talking on a Childrens' Band
radio...
73,
Jerry
Reminds me of an old West Virginia proverb..."Neither
life, liberty or property is safe when the Legislature is in
session!"

Does CA's new cell phone law apply to mobile Amateur radios?
"jbochsler" <jbochsler@...>
http://www.chp.ca.gov/pdf/media/cell_phone_faq.pdf
Q: What if my phone has a push-to-talk feature, can I use that? A: No. The law does provide an exception for those operating a commercial motor truck or truck tractor (excluding pickups), implements of husbandry, farm vehicle or tow truck, to use a two-way radio operated by a "push-to-talk" feature. However, a push-to-talk feature attached to a hands-free ear piece or other hands-free device is acceptable. -- I don't meet any of the categories listed above. Nextel PTT phones are not allowed. AFAIK, there aren't any Bluetooth Amateur mobiles. So is this law shutting out Amateur mobiles? Law goes into effect: July 1st, 2008 jack/KI6PKD

INCERTING YOURSELF INTO A NET.
"Jim Egerton" <jegerton@...>
Although it is not a crime to use the word "break" to incert yourself
into a net or conversation it usually infers a emergency situation and should be used sparingly so when the word "break" is used it means something. Another way to say I have something to say is simply giving your call sign or just saying "info" or "question". This reserves the word "break" for when someone really needs to give emergency traffic.
