Re: Tuesday Night DMR
Nat 2733E N6BRV
Many thanks to Bob for his vision to work with the PAPA system for our Radio communications tool box. I agree with Jerry AK6QJ comments. And definitely need to run ideas and processes through Bob. Here are some input regarding PAPA system: · The PAPA DMR and Analog repeaters map (click on the icons to see details) à http://papasys.com/dmr/repeaters/ · Per Bob (June 1, 2019 meeting), please feel comfortable to test out the various PAPA system repeaters and determine which ones are best for your use (suggest you test the PAPA system repeaters with your HTs and rubber ducky as this probably is the most common denominator form of Transceiver with < 5-6 watts of Tx power – inside your house). For San Diego Repeaters à PAPA 8, 9, 10, 11 and PAPA 7 for El Centro. Report your findings to Bob. o · Analog Tuesday night 8:00 pm Net slot is still available but we need to move fast and request the time slot for our potential RCCT weekly check-in. So please test the PAPA system and send the information in to Bob. · If you can reach these peaks reasonably well with Analog, you’ll likely be able to communicate with DMR or DSTAR through the same locations. Here are some DMR repeaters (plus several others) that are already pre-programmed into your AT 878 radios. Click on the links highlighted in blue below to see the simulated coverage area. o · You do not need to be a PAPA member to use the PAPA system repeaters. · With that said, Per PAPA System: Visitors are welcome - please register on this website http://papasys.com/register.php?do=signup - once you are registered, (Guests page) you can download our Guest Guide (link on page) and additional web pages free for 90 days.

Hi, All - The following comments and opinions are mine only - I have not run them through Bob. He may have other thoughts. I've heard through the grapevine that some folks are advertising our Tuesday night get-together on our RC-PRI talk group to other groups. IMHO a few things to keep in mind before we get too expansive too soon:
Personally I'd like to see the limited resources we currently have used to get our own team up to speed first. Thanks to Bob and the PAPA folks we have a number of new radios in team members' hands. As we are finding out, there is a learning curve that has to be climbed. Fire season is coming (if not already here). The above being said (or written) I'm excited about the potential of DMR and am all for inviting people from far and wide to join us, but like getting ready for a party I suggest getting our house in order before inviting the guests. This shouldn't take long when all the pieces are in place. 73, Jer aka AK6QJ

Re: DMR - Anytone 878 Radios

Good idea - Select OPTIONAL SETTING - GPS/RANGING from the left hand box and you can turn off the GPS Selecting TOOLS - OPTIONS from the top line menus and checking the APRS box adds an APRS section to the left hand box. You can play with the APRS settings there. Jer

DMR - Notes From Yesterday's Meeting
Jer Kostro - Red Cross
HI (Again) -
For those of you at yesterday's meeting (and those of you that weren't) I've documented some of the topics we talked about: Radio IDs - https://www.radioid.net/#! Most of you who have DMR radios have been to this site already and have registered. IIRC new assignee's can have up to two Radio IDs. You can probably get a few more but you have to convince the administrators to give them to you. If you don't have a Radio ID you'll need to upload an "official" copy of your FCC license to the site. Instructions here http://www.arrl.org/obtain-license-copy . "Reference" copies DO NOT WORK - has to be marked "Official". Note: you don't need a separate Radio ID for a hotspot (like a ZumSpot). Use the ID of the radio you will be using the hotspot with. Updating the contact list - go to this website https://kf5iw.com/contactdb.php and download the zip file. Unzip, open your CPS software and import the CSV file (TOOL - IMPORT - select the CSV file in the DIGITAL CONTACT LIST box). The worldwide list is large - it will take four or five minutes to load. DO NOT IMPORT the file INTO THE RADIO ID box! (You have been warned!) The file seems to be updated weekly on Tuesdays. You can take the CSV file, import it into a spreadsheet program, and modify as necessary. Eventually this will be necessary as the contact list will outgrow the capacity of the 878. (Current list is ~133,000 IDs - IIRC the 878 can handle up to 160,000). Personally, updating once a month works for me. Brandmeister System - https://brandmeister.network/ Hoseline is the online service you can use to monitor talk groups. Selected links follow: https://hose.brandmeister.network/group/310980/ (our Red Cross primary talk group) https://hose.brandmeister.network/group/310991/ (our Red Cross tactical TG) https://hose.brandmeister.network/group/3100/# (Nationwide calling - always something going on here) https://hose.brandmeister.network/group/3106/# (California - The DMR Net is on this TG 2000 hours Monday evenings) If you register on the system you can avail yourself of additional services. Especially useful if you are running a hotspot. PAPA System - highly recommend you consider joining if you are not already a member - IMHO a very good value for what you get. http://papasys.com/ You can register as a guest and check them out for free. Lots of useful information can be found here: http://papasys.com/dmr/DMR101/ More later when/if I think of it. Please let me know if I missed anything. 73, Jer aka AK6QJ

I can't find it now but somewhere I read that yes turn off GPS and APRS functions so it doesn't transmit during CPS write.
