Re: Looking for a Small SSD Drive

Jer Kostro - Red Cross

Thanks Mike - lets hold off a bit and see what turns up.

Not a question of money as much as I hate seeing good stuff go to waste. I recently upgraded all my hard drives in my laptops (six) to SSDs, including replacing one of my smaller SSDs (120GB). Perfectly good Samsung drive with lots of life left in it - I just needed more capacity. It's found a new home in the Toughbook. I'm sure there are other small homeless drives floating around.

What you get for the money these days is amazing. I remember buying 200 MB HDDs for $800 a piece - and that was back when money was worth something.:-)

Jer

Sorry Jer. No SSD drives here.

A quick check on Amazon shows a few Kingston and others for around $20-$25. Count me in to donate one.

I can buy or you can and I’ll reimburse. Your call. Let me know.

Hi, All -

Been working on the Comms Trailers ToughBook laptops. I put a surplus SSD drive into one of them - really improves performance and turns it into perfectly usable computer for programming radios and other limited uses.

If someone has a small (120GB) SSD drive they aren't using and are willing to donate it to the team I'll upgrade the other ToughBook. Larger ones are relatively cheap but IMHO overkill for a 2007 vintage computer. If I get more than one drive I'll see about the possibility of upgrading our netbooks or other computers.

You can bring it with you to the August 3rd team meeting or contact me direct and we'll figure out a way to get it to me.

Many thanks and 73,

Jer aka AK6QJ

I don't care what everyone else says. You are truly a River to your people.

First time I invited my parents over for a meal as a emancipated adult IIRC the menu was hot dogs and beer. The quality of the cuisine went up exponentially after I was married.

Apollo 11 Special Event

Where Were You?

Saturday July 20, 2019 0900 PDT
This Saturday marks the 50th Anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11 on the surface of the moon. Our own Chris Durso, AA4CD, will be operating a Special Event Station from the Kennedy Space Center using the Kennedy Space Center Amateur Radio Club callsign N1KSC (n1ksc.org). AA4CD's operations will commence on the PAPA analog repeater system at 0900 PDT Saturday July 20, 2019.

The KSC club will provide special QSL cards to stations that contact N1KSC to commemorate the Apollo 11 moon landing. Chris will be using IRLP through the AA4CD UHF repeater located on Merritt Island in Florida. This event goes until the date of the splashdown, July 24. Some KSC club members are operating from their home stations and some from the Cape throughout the next two weeks. More details will be available at https://www.n1ksc.org/ soon.

Fun Fact: 50 years ago Chris was at the club station (WB4ICJ) with his father, K4DJN, operating on HF talking to people around the world before and after the launch.

Grady and Delora - if you really miss our voices do we have a deal for you. :-)

Check out DMR. We have a talkgroup - all you need is a DMR-capable HT and access to a local DMR repeater OR a hotspot like a ZumSpot to get you into the Internet.

There's a guide Guide to DMR in the files section - look in the DMR folder.

By the way Bob set up Tom K6RCW - we hear him on the talk group out here regularly from Texas.

73 and good to hear from you -

Jer aka AK6QJ

By the way consider yourself checked in.
